Elegant Brodiaea

Brodiaea elegans ssp. elegans

Family: Liliaceae (Lily)

Habitat: grassland

Notes: Blooms late in the season. It can be distinguished from the other Brodiaeas on Mather Field by its relatively tall stature, no constriction above the ovary, and the stamenoides apppressed to the petals. The bulbs have a nutty flavor and are eaten by Botta's Pocket Gopher and were harvested by Native Americans.
