Crown Brodiaea

Brodiaea coronaria ssp. coronaria

Family: Liliaceae (Lily)

Habitat: grassland

Notes: Blooms mid season. This perennial bulb forming plant can be distinguished from other species of Brodiaea at Mather Field by its relatively tall stature, no constriction above the ovary, and stamenoides appressed to the stamens. The bulbs are nutty flavored and nutritious. They are consumed by Botta's Pocket Gophers and were harvested by Native Americans.
