| Biscuit Root Lomatium
caruifolium var.
caruifolium
Family: Apiaceae
(Carrot)
Habitat: grassland
Notes: As a
member of the carrot family, these plants have substantial
carrot-like tap roots. Native Americans harvested these. After
drying the roots, they pounded them into a flour from which
primative biscuits were made. Early European settlers also used
the foliage as an herb to spice up their cooking. |
