2010 Docent Training

2010 Weekend Tours Begin
March 6th
Public tours of Jepson Prairie Preserve will begin
on Saturday, March 6. Trained docents will lead an easy walking
tour beginning at 10 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday through May 9 highlighting the features of the vernal pools and surrounding
grasslands. This landscape is famous for tiny plants which survive
winter flooding to flower into fields of brilliant color in spring
and unique aquatic creatures which use the temporary pools as a
refuge from predatory fish.
Jepson Prairie Preserve is owned and managed by
the Solano Land Trust, a non-profit land trust formed in 1986. To
build the endowment to maintain and enhance the preserve, a
donation of $2 or more per adult tour participant is requested.
Groups of 5 or more should make reservations for
tours by calling (707)432-0150. A short self-guided nature trail
is available for visitors during daylight hours; all other areas
of the Preserve are closed except for guided tours. Waterproof
shoes or boots are recommended, and visitors may wish to bring
drinking water and sun screen.

Preserve
From the Sacramento area: West on I-80 and
then south on Highway 113. Twelve miles south of Dixon, where 113 turns east
at an overhead warning light, go straight onto the gravel road,
Cook Lane, cross the railroad tracks, and continue to the parking
area near the eucalyptus trees.
From the Bay area: East on I-80, east
on Highway 12 and then north on Highway 113. Take the first left at
a warning light, then turn left again, onto Cook Lane at the second
warning light. Continue down Cook Lane across the railroad tracks to
the parking area near the eucalyptus trees.
